10 BB All-Stars are Konkowski Tournament Champs!!!!
The Nanuet Little League 10 year old boys won yesterday, beating South Orangetown 5-4 to win the Chris Konkowski Tournament in Ramapo. Pitching, Defense and timely hitting was the recipe for success in this victory.
Kyle Tully started on the mound for the 10's and Phil Kurisko took the mound in the 2nd and went to the sixth. They held a potent SOLL team to only two hits! Amazing job done by these two!
Down 4-2 in the 4th, bases loaded and only one out, Tyler Conjura made the play of the tournament! A towering shot to right field, Tyler caught the ball cleanly and fired to our catcher, AJ Ierace. AJ handled the ball and slapped a tag on the runner who tagged up. This double play killed the SOLL rally and shifted the momentum back in Nanuet’s favor. Ray McCune was like a cat at the hot corner, not letting anything by him making several put outs. Joey Barros made a beautiful catch at first base holding runners on. AJ Fitzmaurice made a key play at second base in the second inning ending a bases loaded threat.
Throughout this tournament, the 10's got offensive contributions up and down the lineup. This game was no exception. Phil Kurisko had a single. Kyle Tully had a single. Sebastian Cabral had a single and run scored. Connor O'Brien hit a double, had an rbi and a run scored. RJ Johnson worked a walk and scored the game tying run. Aidan McCauley had a single, rbi and run scored. AJ Ierace had a single and (game winning) run scored. Ray McCune hit a single. Joey Barros had the game winning rbi single. Tyler Conjura hit a single. The boys worked tirelessly on their hitting and their hard work paid off. Their approach at the plate kept opposing defenses on their toes and never relented.
The Nanuet Little League community should be very proud of this group of boys. In victory, and defeat, they played the game right. They held their heads high. They represented our league and our town with dignity. They held no excuses, and gave everything they had. They respected their opponents and themselves and showed many along the way what sportsmanship means.
I would like to thank coaches Joe Barros, Joe Ierace and Steve McCune for their time and efforts working with the boys. Thank you to Lisa Fitzmaurice for keeping our book and getting our updates out to the NLL community. Thank you to the parents for sacrificing a portion of their summer, and fans that came out to support this group throughout the all-star campaign.
If you see any of these boys around town, feel free to let them know they made you proud:
Phil Kurisko, Kyle Tully, Sebastian Cabral, Connor O'Brien, RJ Johnson, Aidan McCauley, AJ Ierace, Ray McCune, Joey Barros, AJ Fitzmaurice, Tyler Conjura, Nick Lanoce, Andrew Knapp.
